How to Land a Job During a Recession

Landing a job during a recession is all about making yourself truly stand out with an online cv. Networking will help you get noticed and you will be introduced to those in-the-know. While you are meeting and greeting with industry execs, update your resume and make it shine. There is no such thing as a one size fits all resume, you must tailor it to the specific job, for which, you would like to apply. Hiring managers will take a few seconds to skim your resume for something that catches their eye, so use key words that get their attention. Give specific information about how you have increased productivity or profitability in your current position or in the past. If you don’t have a specific position in mind, post your resume on different job sites and let recruiters come to you. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. If you want to land a job, you may have to take some risks.

Remember, in a down economy, you will be competing with many more applicants through online cvs. Once you have succeeded in getting in the door, you must focus on a great presentation during the interview. Research the company before your interview. It is very important to know about the company, and know how you can use that information to land the job. Look at their website; it is usually the best resource for information about the company. Emphasize your strengths and let them know exactly why you would be the best person for this job. If you have increased productivity or profitability in the past, tell them exactly how and translate that into how you can help their company. Remember, if times are tough, they want someone who will be able to weather the storm, and help turn things around.

Always remember to follow up with the interviewer promptly after the interview. Within 2 business days, call or email them expressing appreciation for the interview and their time. This shows your interest in the position, and that you are considerate of their time. If you don’t get the first job you apply for, try-try again! Keep a positive attitude and your dream job will become your reality!
