As the business market continues to power ahead at full speed, we are seeing more and more large mergers and takeovers across the globe. This has led to a massive increase in the number of computing networks spanning the world and while the technology to support these is available, many people seem to forget the issue of Network Security.
There is absolutely no point spending thousands of pounds (or millions in some cases) on a state of the art system and then leaving yourself open to attack by neglecting one or more areas of your network which could pose serious security risks. Whether this is a simple solution such as the regular changing of passwords, improved firewalls or more security on network connections, it all needs to be considered.
It is often too easy to concentrate on the business at hand, forgetting that if any competitor was ever to hack into your system, your business could disappear overnight. Even worse, if a hacker was to breach your firewalls and gain full access to the inner workings of your company they could literally close you down over night.
One area of network security which has come to light over the last few years is the “work from home” services which many now offer. More and more companies quickly realised that without the necessary controls and safety systems in place there are potentially grave dangers with opening up your system to external connections. If done correctly, attaching to your business network and working from home can be as safe as working in the office, but there needs to be an appreciation of the potential risks and regular reviews of security.
Thankfully the standard of Network Security has increased dramatically over the last decade although many people still see this as an unwanted expense at times. It is vital that you appreciate the value of network security because without it you may well be leaving yourself open to serious internal or external attacks.
